Rushnyk is an embroidered Ukrainian towel that serve ritual as well as practical purposes. In traditional Ukrainian weddings, the bride and groom stand over a large rushnyk like this one and say their vows. Large rushnyky are also used to hold bread during house warming. These ritual uses do not bar practical use, though. Rushnyky are commonly used as tablecloths and towels in the home.
This Rushnyk is hand embroidered using no machines and takes many hours of work and will be treasured from generation to generation. Truly a fine piece of hand embroidered art by the Ukrainian women of Western Ukraine. This fine Ryshnyk was hand embroidered in the Carpathian Mountains. The towel is in a new condition and free of any damages.
